What to Expect

During the first assessment session we take time to ascertain what you want from coming to see us and what you are aiming for. This can help clarify roughly how long the work is likely to take, and what it may entail.

Generally speaking, Counselling is used for shorter term work where current problems need immediate attention. Psychotherapy is more appropriate when established ways of coping, usually developed in childhood, are no longer helpful and may be preventing a person from engaging fully in life, or intimate relationships.

If we agree that it looks possible for us to work together, six sessions is usually suggested to begin with, with a view to reviewing the situation. It might feel appropriate to end at that point, or to continue.

The sessions last for one hour and are usually weekly, at the same time and day. There may be occasions when this needs to vary.
